Distraction is a beautiful boutique store in the heart of Gymea Shopping Village in the southern suburbs of Sydney. We pride ourselves on creating a warm and welcoming environment for our customers, commiting ourselves to ‘old fashioned’ service and focus on community.
Our thirteen plus years in the business has seen us develop strong brand selections for our store and we have a particular focus on Australian made and artisan products.
Whilst we are a business, we are focussed on our community, domestically and internationally. Our charity, The Burma Project is run from our store office in Gymea which gives great meaning and purpose to the work we do. Additionally, we also realise in an age of on-line shopping and ever increasing electronic communication, that we are an important part of our local community – keeping up face to face relationships with our customers is one of the great advantages we experience in having a bricks and mortar store.
The Burma Project was established in 2003 by the owner of Distraction, Angela Colson. This project was established to create sustainable community development issues in Burma and since it’s inception has branched out into Early Childhood Education Programs, Orphan Care, Elderly Care, Medical training initiatives, back to work programs and more.
At Distraction we proudly support Beyond Blue with our annual Father’s Day fundraising. We love the work that Beyond Blue do to make information on mental health issues accessibile in the community. We value the role that men play in our lives and as such we believe that Father’s Day is the perfect time to show our support for this very worthy cause.
What can we say? Who could say no to man’s best friend?! We are constantly in awe of how animals contribute to our lives, and we are not ashamed to say that at Distraction, we are dog lovers! These very special puppies are in training to be support dogs for people with disabilities who would otherwise struggle to achieve some of the basic tasks these animals can perform.
We are commited to working with charities locallly, nationally and internationally…SSESS is one of the local agencies we support. Their work in the community, particularly in the area of supporting families with multiple birth is invaluable. We are very proud share a small part in this great work.
Bay Babes is another great local charity that we support for our Mother’s Day fundraiser. We know so many women in our store who have been touched by breast cancer, we know that the work of breast cancer research will be rewarded with saving many lives over the years.
